Advent Dice Calendar 5
This calendar contains 24 dice hidden randomly in perforated slots of a cardboard box with a full-color print on it. Fifteen dice are randomly chosen from the range of Q-Workshop’s most popular and newest designs in various types and color themes. Eight dice are in the new design of the Christmas Dice Set (additional Modern d4 is included), in a new exclusive color theme. In the very last slot, an exceptional surprise is waiting. It’s made especially for this edition of the Advent Dice Calendar!
Creepshow
Players: 2–5 • Ages: 14+ • Play time: 40–60 min.
In this competitive story-building game, players play as “Creeps” and build deliciously horrible stories to send bad people to their well deserved demises. The game is played with story cards and suspense cards. Story cards work together to form a chain that tells a story for each villain in three acts. Suspense cards are the fuel that makes the story work!
On your turn, you will have the choice to either Creep or Show! When you Creep, you may first discard any number of Story cards in your hand you no longer want and then draw back up to seven. Then you must play a Suspense card (valued -2, 1, 2, or 3) face down to any villain’s stack so other players won’t know what you played. When you Show, you may play a story card from your hand to a villain’s story chain. These will have various effects from earning points, looking at suspense already there, and adding suspense cards of your own. When a villain is in act 3 of their story, you could instead use the Show action to play an available ending card to potentially score big points if the story has enough suspense in it!
When this happens, the player who has the most suspense on it will also score that villain card and earn bonus points! The game ends when the major villain’s story does. No matter your strategy, use your suspense cards wisely and try not to let any of the villains escape the fates they’ve worked so hard to earn…
Dracula vs. Van Helsing
In Dracula vs. Van Helsing, each player controls one of the title characters. Van Helsing must remove all of Dracula’s life points to win, but if Dracula turns all four inhabitants of the same district into vampires first, Dracula wins.
The game lasts at most five rounds. Each round, players play in turn (starting with Dracula), drawing a card and then discarding that card or swapping it with one of the five cards on their rack to trigger the discarded card’s ability. Cards come in eight types, each with its own effect. Instead of drawing (and discarding) a card, a player can call for the end of the round. In order to choose this action, at least six cards need to be in the discard pile. After the opponent plays one last turn, the round ends; otherwise, the round ends when the deck is empty.
At the end of a round, players compare the five cards on their rack. Each card corresponds to one of the five districts on the game board. If Dracula has the higher-valued card, one of the humans in this district is converted into a vampire; if Van Helsing is higher, Dracula loses a health point. If one of the game-winning conditions is met, the game ends immediately.
Jekyll & Hyde vs. Scotland Yard
Players: 2 • Ages: 10+ • Play time: 20 min.
Jekyll & Hyde vs. Scotland Yard is a cooperative trick-taking game for two players that’s a standalone spin-off of Jekyll vs. Hyde.
You’re Dr. Jekyll, the kind doctor and valuable friend—but you’re also the infamous Mr. Hyde, who is hunted by Scotland Yard for the many misdeeds committed in the City of London. Your objective is to maintain the balance in the duality of your personality, while staying ahead of Scotland Yard’s investigation.
This is a story-based game in which you have to achieve the objectives of every chapter of the story to complete the game.
Vampire Queen
Players: 3–12 • Ages: 8+ • Play time: 30 min.
The gray morning has arrived, and the vampires of the ancient clans must now hurry back to their tombs. For the high and mighty, this is easy, but the smaller, weaker vampires have the strength to do this only in groups. Thus, you as the vampire lord might want to play out several with low values together in order not to be surpassed. Whatever you do in Vampire Queen, though, be sure to rid yourself of an intrusive vampire hunter because no one wants to get stuck with that!
The deck consists of cards numbered 1–13, four vampire queens that have variable value, and two vampire hunters. Players start with a hand of 9–13 cards depending on the player count, and the start player for a round plays from their hand either a single card, multiple cards of the same value, or a vampire hunter. Vampire queens on their own (or in a pair, triplet, or quartet) are valued at 14, but they can be played with other cards and adopt the value of those cards. For a single card or a set of cards (e.g. three 6s), each other player in turn can either pass or play the same number of cards but of a higher value (e.g. three 9s). Whoever plays the highest card(s) wins the round and leads off the next round.
